Confucius Temple is situated in the bank of Qinhuai River with occupation of 1160 acres, embracing ancient constructions and classical views.
As the name suggests, Confucius Temple is the core of the area, that is generally called as Fuzimiao. It’s first built as the highest institution of academy dating back to 337 A.D.. The Confucius Temple was newly constructed on its site in 1034 A.D., which was meant to honour the memory of Confucius. The temple and related buildings that people visit nowadays are all rebuilt in latter-day, including the temples, gardens and halls since they have been destroyed many times in last thousands of years. Zhan Garden is the oldest garden in Nanjing, where has the history of over 600 years since from Ming Dynasty. The Porcelain Tower of Nanjing is standing outside the ancient circumvallation, reputedly as the first Buddhist temple in southern China but formerly as known as Jianchu temple which was built in 238 A.D.. The area becomes even special at night, when the river and buildings are all illuminated colorfully.
